Gregory J. Scalzo is the Pastor and founding director of Shear-Jashub Christian Tabernacle and the featured speaker on the weekly Shear-Jashub radio program. His Bible teaching ministry combines a scholarly knowledge of God’s Word with Holy Spirit anointed wisdom and insight.
Greg Scalzo was born and raised in Queens, New York. He received his undergraduate degree in chemistry, graduating with honors from New York University. Starting out as a physical chemist for a scientific equipment manufacturer, Greg transitioned into technical sales and interacted with PhD’s from major corporations. This led to a position with McKesson Chemical, the largest chemical distributor in the United States, where he was quickly promoted to Territory Manager of their Connecticut branch. After several years, he was successfully recruited away by Lonza, a global specialty chemical manufacturer. At night, Greg also completed his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut, where he graduated at the very top of his class.
In the spring of 1981, while Greg was still working at McKesson Chemical and attending UCONN, he and his wife Patty accepted the Lord Jesus Christ and were saved. Freed from agnosticism and the evolutionary teaching of his education, Greg then poured himself into a study of God’s Word. And as he grew in his Christian faith, the Holy Spirit made clear to Greg that God was calling him to a special work of ministry. At the leading of the Lord, he finally left the corporate business world to prepare to build a ministry and church in the dry ground of New England. In 1984, he and Patty founded Shear-Jashub Christian Tabernacle, a non-denominational Christian church in Madison, Connecticut. The church is a true Bible church, upholding the inspiration and inerrancy of the Scriptures, preaching the born again relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and testifying to the reality of the gifts of the Holy Spirit for today. Found in Isaiah 7:3, Shear-Jashub means “A Remnant Shall Return” and there is a strong emphasis in the church’s teaching on the Jewish roots of the faith.
Pastor Greg’s sermons have been featured on the Shear-Jashub radio broadcast since 1997. They are heard weekly in Connecticut and parts of New York on WFIF 1500AM and around the globe daily on the Shear-Jashub website at www.shear-jashub.org
In 1985, in order to support themselves in the ministry, Pastor Greg and Patty started a small business which drew on their mutual hobbies of art and woodworking, Patty’s background in decorating, and Greg’s knowledge of the technical aspects of wood chemistry and finishes. In the Greg & Patty Scalzo furniture shop, they still to this day create artistic reproductions and restore fine furniture and antiques. In 2016, Pastor Greg and Patty celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have three children: Greg III, who is a software engineer for a defense contractor and married to Michelle; Patricia Deborah Orris, MBA, who is an audit analyst and married to Billy; and Francis-David, who is a graduate student pursuing his Master of Divinity at Regent University and who is a classical violinist. Pastor Greg and Patty have one grandchild, little Christopher Teagan Orris.
